In recognition of my work with students in University College of Syracuse University during 4 years of my service there. This award was presented to me by New York State US Senator during the ceremony.

 

SIAM Data Mining Competition 2007, Third Place

A team of two students working with me was able to achieve the Third Place in Classification Contest that was in conjunction with SIAM SDM 2007, April 26-28, 2007.

 

ROBOCUP

Third Place in German Open April 2004, with team TRU-UOWD from University of Wollongong (Dubai Campus)

Third Place in American Open 2003, with team Thunder from University of Tehran

I have been involved with Robocup competitions (Soccer & Rescue Simulation) from 2002 to 2005 and two of my teams have won international recognition.

 

GRANT:

  • Farsi Lexicon and Corpora for speech to speech translation, part of LC-star project (www.lc-star.org) Nokia, 25000 Euro, Nov. 2008 to Dec. 2009.

  • Platform and Interface for programming MyRo Robots for Novice, small grant 10000AED from UOWD, 2009.

  • Intrusion Detection by Data Mining and Information Theory, small grant 10000AED from UOWD,2009.

  • A research and development contract from a US-based company to develop an Email Categorizer and Information Extraction unit for Customer Relationship Management software.  Feb. –Dec. 2004.

  • I have received two small grants from University of Tehran between 2001 and 2003, for two projects  Filtering Documents by Plausible Inferences” and “Intelligent Tutoring System”.

RESEARCH:

My research interests are in:
  • Information Retrieval (Question Answering, Cross Language IR, Filtering)
  • Persian Information Retrieval
  • Reasoning in Artificial Intelligence specially by Human Plausible Reasoning (HPR)

 My approach in IR is generally based on Natural Language Processing and Artificial Intelligence and specially based on HPR.  HPR has been used in experiments with XML retrieval, clustering, text IR and in all cases it has resulted in higher precision but lower recall system.


 When it was applied to Expert Finding, it was resulted in high recall but low precision system.(see reference below)
